"i see the moon through kitchen windows
the river bed dries too soon
and the clouds no longer bring promises
the air turns sour
and lurches out at me,
but only on occasion

the silent battle ensues
taking refuge in trenches that were dug too deep
where clay turns to stone
waves powered by the illusion of self-sufficiency
when they are just moved by the wind, like i am

the high priest sits atop his throne
and i can’t feel my body

the game is over when the king is doomed."
